PSAA welcomes the NAO’s Progress update: Timeliness of local auditor reporting on local government in England.
We strongly support the call for urgent solutions and the need for radical changes in the local audit system. As outlined in our press release announcing the outcome of our procurement of audit services in 2022 we hope that those changes will include more proportionate audit requirements. In our view this is an absolute pre-requisite to achieve a more sustainable audit system.
The NAO’s report highlights the continued serious consequences of delayed opinions for the sector, the bodies and the auditors. PSAA remains committed to working with stakeholders to work towards a resilient, sustainable system which delivers timely audits of an appropriate quality.
