The Redmond Report documented significant challenges in local government auditing, acknowledging that the market is fragile and lacks resilience and highlighting issues in relation to the adequacy and sustainability of audit fees.
The Department for Levelling Up Housing and Communities is implementing a range of measures to address the recommendations. Against this backcloth we consulted on an increase of 25% on the relevant hourly rates for fee variations for audits from 2020/21, and implemented the proposal in line with the consultation responses.
